PMEF Scholarship Summaries
Penn Manor Education Foundation offers more than 90 different scholarships to graduating Penn Manor High School seniors, with total annual awards in excess of $95,000.
Endowed Scholarships
The following scholarships have been funded in perpetuity through an endowment established by the scholarship sponsor:
Abram & Dorothy Sangrey Memorial Scholarship
$1,000 scholarship for senior boys or girls who are active in their faith communities. Students who plan college-level study in music, religion, or social justice will be given preference. Financial need will be considered. Acceptance to a four-year school is preferred but not required.
Agriculture Study Scholarship sponsored by Manor Township
This $1,000 scholarship is for a resident of Manor Township who is majoring in the field of Agriculture. Priority will be given to degrees in Agriculture or Agronomy Studies, Agribusiness, Bio renewable, Animal/Plant/Earth/Mineral Science.
August “Gus” Birchler Memorial Scholarship
$500 award for a Manor FFA member pursuing an agricultural career.
Betty Doan Memorial Scholarship
$500 award for a student who is interested in pursuing a career in health care or education and has had to overcome some significant challenges in his/her life.
Beverly Longenecker Scholarship
$500 award for a student who intends to enter the workforce requiring a specific skill to foster independence after high school. The student is currently supported by staff of transitional classes at Penn Manor High School.
Captain Ed Davis Memorial Award
$500 scholarship given to student with exceptional academic record who demonstrates leadership and appreciation of freedom. Winners selected by high school staff.
Chris Shank Memorial Technology Scholarship
$1,000 award for a student pursuing a career in information technology. Priority will be given to applicants in communications technology.
David L. Murray Memorial Scholarship
$1,000 award in memory of Dave Murray. Selection based on work ethic, community service and involvement in extracurricular activities.
David Ober Memorial Scholarship
$500 award will be given to a student majoring in the field of social studies. Priority will be given to psychology majors, and financial need will be considered.
Dennis R. Herr Memorial Scholarship
$500 award for a student demonstrating academic success and strong work ethic. Financial need is a consideration. Student will be planning to attend a trade or tech school.
Doan Family Scholarship
$500 award for a student planning to attend tech or trade school or a two-year college with an emphasis on learning a useful skill.
Dorothy Dart Milliman Scholarship
$1,000 award for a student planning to pursue a career in nursing or closely related health care field; demonstrates academic success, contribution to community and financial need.
Dr. Jan Mindish Scholarship
$500 awards for students demonstrating academic success, service to school and community, and ability to successfully manage time between co-curricular activities and academic work; financial need to be considered.
Jack and Joanne Herr Scholarship
$500 award, with preference given to students who have been employed at John Herr’s Village Market; demonstrates academic excellence and genuine commitment to the Millersville community; suitable for those attending a tech/trade school, two- or four-year college; financial need is considered.
James D. Harne Memorial Scholarship
This $500 scholarship is for a student planning to pursue a four-year degree as either an English major or in library science or a related field. Preference will be given to students known for their sense of humor and willingness to take creative risks. Selection will be made by high school staff.
John R. Milliman Scholarship
$1,000 award for a student planning to pursue a career in engineering or math-related field who demonstrates academic success, contribution to community and financial need.
Karen Shenk Scholarship
$1,000 award for a student pursuing a career in health/human services. The student must be interested in pursuing a career in the field at a four-year college or a two-year associate degree program. The individual must have a genuine commitment to community service and a strong academic history.
Kim Wells Scholarship
$500 each to a male and female who have excelled in math and will pursue a career in a mathematics or science related field. Winners selected by math department.
Lloyd & Ann Boyd Scholarship
$1,000 award for a student planning to attend a trade or technical school.
Luella Mellinger Scholarship
Funded by the Penn Manor Alumni Association, this $500 award is for a student demonstrating academic merit who intends to further his/her education with the goal of a teaching career.
Marsha Gullo Frerichs Scholarship
In memory of Coach Frerichs, $500 scholarships awarded to male and female golfers who display the qualities of team first and sportsmanship. Selected by golf coach.
Molly Curtis Memorial Scholarship
$500 scholarship awarded for devotion and enthusiasm to Penn Manor youth and varsity softball. Winners selected by softball coaching staff.
Mrs. Abner Houseknecht Memorial Scholarship
$2,500 awards for female students who demonstrate academic achievement and financial need.
Norma Lois Herr Memorial Scholarship
$1,000 award for a student who intends to major in nursing or a related field. Must be planning to attend a two- or four-year college or other certification program. The student should have a strong academic history and be able to demonstrate a commitment to community service.
Olga P. Harvie Memorial Scholarship
$1,000 award for a student dedicated to the Penn Manor theater program who is interested in pursuing a career in theater performance, theater technology or a related field; financial need is considered.
Penn Manor Education Foundation Scholarship
$500 awards for students who demonstrate academic success, community spirit and contributions, and participation in school activities.
PMAA Dr. D.L. Biemesderfer Award
$500 award goes to the Class Valedictorian.
PMAA Mary Filling Klemmer Award
$500 award goes to the Class Salutatorian
Political Science Scholarship sponsored by Manor Township
This $1,000 scholarship is for a resident of Manor Township who is majoring in the field of Political Science. Priority will be given to degrees in Political Science, International Politics, Politics and Government, Public Policy.
Rachel E. Miller Memorial Scholarship
$500 per year for up to four years for a student demonstrating a high level of achievement in both academics and athletics.
Shellenberger-Hosler Scholarship
$500 award for a student pursuing a career in library science or closely related field, such as education or communications.
The Sherilyn Schock Memorial Scholarship
$750 award for a student who attended Letort Elementary and is interested in pursuing post-secondary education. Demonstration of academic success, genuine commitment to school and community, financial need considered.
The Starrett Robert Metzler Memorial Scholarship
Two $750 awards for a male and a female graduating senior interested in pursuing post-secondary education and who exemplify “team before self.” Demonstration of academic success, PM pride, and genuine commitment to school and community; financial need considered.
Warfel Family Scholarship
$1,000 award for a student who is interested in pursuing a career in special education. Demonstration of academic success, genuine commitment to school and community; financial need considered.
William H. Duncan Memorial Scholarship
$500 scholarship established by William and Alma Duncan in honor of their son that is given to students who have distinguished themselves in instrumental music. Winners selected by Penn Manor music staff.
Willis and Martha Herr Family Scholarship
$500 award for a student majoring in agriculture or business, with consideration given to church/community involvement and leadership qualities.
Annual Scholarships
The following scholarships are funded by an annual gift from the donor.
Bree Taryn Caffey Memorial Scholarship
$5,000 award for a student pursuing a career in nursing.
Christine A. Weidinger Memorial Scholarship
$500 award for a female student planning to major in the field of Family and Consumer Science or a related field (food service, food preparation or textile related crafts).
Class of 2017 Scholarship
Two $500 awards for a male and female student interested in pursuing post-secondary education. Demonstration of academic success, Penn Manor leadership in school-sponsored organizations, & genuine commitment to school and community, financial need is strongly considered.
Class of 2018 Scholarship
Two $500 awards for one male and one female based on their contributions to the Penn Manor community.
Class of 2019 Scholarship
Two $500 awards for a male and female student in good academic standing who are committed to school and community
Craig S. Shyver Memorial Scholarship
$1,000 for a student pursuing a four-year degree in the music field.
Donald Pollock Scholarship
$1,000 a year for four years (total $4,000) for a student pursuing a career in math-oriented field, preference given to business/accounting major or those seeking a teaching career in math; strong academic success and community contribution; financial need is considered.
Edgar Funk Memorial Scholarship
$500 award for a Career & Technology Center graduate or to a student pursing a career in teaching or nursing.
Frerichs Family Education Scholarship
$1,000 award for a student pursuing a career in education. Preference will be given to students planning to attend Millersville University.
Geist Family Citizenship Award
$500 awards given to model citizens who are a positive influence and always show empathy for others. Male and female winners will be selected by the high school staff.
Hans H. Haverstick Memorial Scholarship
$500 scholarship given to a soccer player who exhibits the qualities of scholarship, athleticism, and sportsmanship. Selected by soccer coaching staff.
Jere R. Hoin Memorial Scholarship
$1,000 award for a student pursuing a career in elementary education. Must demonstrate strong academic achievement and involvement in extracurricular activities.
J.K. Mechanical Trades Award
$1,000 award for a student pursuing a career in a trade.
Jim Livermore Memorial Scholarship
$500 award for a student planning to attend a two- or four-year technical or trade school; financial need considered.
Joan Pollock Memorial Scholarship
$1,000 a year for four years (total $4,000) award for a student who intends to major in nursing or related field. Must be planning to attend a four-year college, associate degree or other certification program. The student should have a strong academic history and be able to demonstrate a commitment to community service.
Kevin B. Smith Memorial Award
$500 award for a student who completed a CTC program or pursuing a trade career; consideration for student with a demonstrated love for the outdoors (hunting and fishing) and an interest in sports.
Lee ‘Todd’ Amigh Scholarship
$14,000 scholarship for a student passionate about pursuing an education and career in environmental education. Previous coursework in environmental education and volunteer service related to the environment will be considered.
Marian B. Davis Memorial Scholarship
$500 award for a student planning to attend two- or four-year nursing program; financial need considered, and priority given to applicants from single-parent families and/or first in family to attend college.
Mario-Angelo Russo Memorial Scholarship
$500 award for a student pursuing a career in music or media production or a related field; financial need is considered.
Mark Dano Scholarship
$500 award for a student who intends to major in Engineering or a STEM-related field. Must be planning to attend a four-year college outside of Pennsylvania. The student should have a strong academic history and involvement in extracurricular activities.
Megan Martin Memorial Scholarship
$500 award for a student who has overcome adversity and made a positive impact by helping others. Priority will be given to applicants with an interest in music and students who attended Letort Elementary School.
Michael Hnat Memorial Scholarship
$500 award for a student planning to pursue business administration or related field in a two- or four-year program; financial need considered, and priority given to applicants from single-parent families and/or first in family to attend college.
Michelle Blazic Memorial Scholarship
$500 award for a student who overcame a familial struggle/adversity, such as long-term illness or loss of a parent, incarceration of a parent, or removal from parental custody while still maintaining academic excellence and desire to further post-secondary education.
Millersville Business Association Scholarship
$500 award for students attending Millersville University with an interest in business or related field; demonstrates academic success, contribution to community and financial need.
Nick & Marnice Charles Scholarship
$650 scholarship for a student who has spent four years in one of Penn Manor’s music ensemble groups. Winners selected by the Penn Manor music staff.
Patricia A. Texter Scholarship
$500 award for a student pursuing a health care-related field, preferably nursing; priority given to student seeking registered nurse certification; demonstrated academic success, commitment to community service and financial need.
PMAA Legacy Scholarship
$500 award for a student whose parent(s) are Penn Manor graduates. Student should be in good academic standing and committed to school and community.
Rankin & Gregory LLC Scholarship
$2,500 award for a student planning to continue his/her education in any field. Selection based on academic success, recommendations, and essay.
Rintz Family Foundation Scholarship
Three $1,000 awards for students pursuing STEM-related field, preferably engineering or math.
Sean Moore Memorial Scholarship
$500 award for a student pursuing two- or four-year program, with priority given to STEM-relate field and participation in Quiz Bowl and/or Model United Nations.
Star Rocks Farms Foundation Scholarship
$1,500 scholarship for a student pursuing the field of agriculture and life sciences. Selection will be based on leadership in community, church, school, and agriculture programs. Applications will be available through the Penn Manor High School Counseling Office.
Stella Caldwell Memorial Scholarship
$500 award for a student demonstrating commitment to community service.
The Donald and Susan Martin Family “Pay It Forward” Scholarship
Up to $1,200 award ($300/year of college or technical school). Requires recipient to agree to make a tax-deductible donation of $25/year for 10 years, maintain 3.0 GPA, and participate in school/community activities.
Tony Purcell, Sr Memorial Scholarship
$1,000 scholarship for a student planning to attend tech or trade school or an apprenticeship with an emphasis on learning a useful skill. Preference given to students who participated in community service and/or a sport.
Wade Groff Memorial Scholarship
$500 award for a student pursuing a career at a trade or tech institution. Student must demonstrate community service.
Warren V. Lefever (’42) Memorial Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship is for a student planning to attend tech or trade school with an emphasis on learning a useful skill. Preference will be given to a motivated CTC student.
William ‘Bill’ Fisher Memorial Scholarship
$1,000 scholarship awarded to a student majoring in the field of journalism, with preference given to sports journalism. Applications will be available through the Penn Manor High School Counseling Office.
